ABSTRACT

Background: The intra-operative blood loss which required transfusion is one of the complications in Ward-Mayo’s operation. The objective of this study was to evaluate its effectiveness to minimizes hemorrhage in Ward-Mayo’s operationMethods: It is a well-designed, Clinical, interventional, prospective, randomized control trial. In the department of obstetrics and gynecology, IPGMER-SSKM (PG) H, Kolkata, West Bengal, India. More than one-year study. After ethics approval, the total number of sixty-six cases will be selected with randomization for Ward-Mayo operation and allocated into two groups operated as - Gr-A (n = 33 cases) - by infiltrating locally tranexaminic acid, Gr-B (n = 33-controls) - application local conventional haemostatics.Results: The outcome informs of primary and secondary assessed, analyzed, tabulated and statistically significant showed accordingly as per graph pad software. In Table 1 and 2. The results of individual group (Gr. A and Gr. B) in forms of pry and Sec. outcomes showed that there are better outcomes in all aspects with zero mortality Tranexamic group than controls.Conclusions: This study concluded that the Tranexamic Acid can safely and effectively used by local infiltration during Ward-Mayo’ operation. Like other department, this technique can be utilized in other vaginal procedure (ex-Episiotomy).

ABSTRACT

Macrothelypteris torresiana is a fern species belonging to the family Thelypteridaceae. The present study was conducted to evaluate hepatoprotective potential of ethanol extract from M. torresiana aerial parts (EEMTAP) and detect the polyphenolic compounds present in the extract using high performance thin layerchromatography (HPTLC). Hepatoprotective potential of EEMTAP were tested at doses of 300 and 600 mg/kg, per os (p.o.), on Wistar albino rats. The extract and silymarin treated animal groups showed significant decrease in activities ofdifferent biochemical parameters like serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase(SGOT), serum glutamate-pyruvate transaminase (SGPT), and alkaline phosphatase (ALP), which were elevated by carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) intoxication. The levels of total bilirubin and total protein along with the liver weight were also restoredto normalcy by EEMTAP and silymarin treatment. After CCl4 administration, the levels of hepatic antioxidant enzymes such as glutathione (GSH) and catalase (CAT) were decreased whereas the level of hepatic lipid peroxidation (LPO) was elevated. The levels of these hepatic antioxidant enzymes were also brought to normalcy by EEMTAP and silymarin treatment. Histological studies supported the biochemical findings, and treatment with EEMTAP at doses of 300 and 600 mg/kg, p.o. was found to be effective in restoring CCl4-induced hepatotoxicity in rats. A simple HPTLC analysis was conducted for the detection of polyphenolic compounds in EEMTAP, and the result revealed the presence of caffeic acid as phenolic acid and quercetin as flavonoid. The proposed HPTLC method is simple and concise and provides a good resolution of caffeic acid and quercetin from other constituents present in EEMTAP.

ABSTRACT

The petroleum ether, chloroform, methanol and aqueous extracts of Cleome rutidosperma DC (Family: Capparidaceae) roots were evaluated for their wound healing activities in rats using excision and incision wound models respective-ly. The effects of test samples on the rate of wound healing were assessed by the rate of wound closure, period of epithelialisation and wound breaking strength. Nitrofurazone (0.2% w/w) in simple ointment I.P. was used as reference standard for the activity comparison. The results of the study revealed that the animals treated with methanol and aqueous extracts of C. rutidosperma showed faster rate of wound healing compared to other extracts under study. The chloroform extract of the selected plant also produced promising results but the effects are seen to be of lesser extent than the corresponding methanol and aqueous extracts. The petroleum ether extract did not produce significant results. The present work justifies the use of C. rutidosperma roots for wound healing activity as claimed in the folklore literature.
